Make it a seriesCharacter counter: how to use it
- Paste a title, caption or description into the box, or type straight into it. The counts for characters, words, lines and hashtags change with every key you press.
- Look at the two limit rows. Each shows how many characters are left in a YouTube title (100) and a YouTube description (5,000); when you go past one, the row turns red and shows how far over you are.
- Trim until the row you need is back in range, then copy the text into YouTube Studio. Your text stays in your browser the whole time and is never sent to us.
Example
Written by hand to show the format. Your result will be different.
- You type
- I tried cooking every meal in a rice cooker for a week (day 3 surprised me) #ricecooker #cookinghacks
- You get something like
- 101 characters, 18 words, 1 line, 2 hashtags. YouTube title: 1 over. Removing the word 'every' brings it back inside the 100-character limit.
Tips
- Put the words that matter in the first part of a title. Long titles get cut short in some places on a phone, so the start has to carry the meaning on its own.
- Use hashtags sparingly. YouTube's help page says it shows up to 3 hashtags above the title, and if a video has more than 60 hashtags it ignores all of them.
- Count emoji with care. One emoji that looks like a single symbol can be made of several parts, so it may take more than one character here and on other sites.
Questions
What is the character limit for a YouTube title?
Up to 100 characters, according to YouTube Help. The description can hold up to 5,000 characters, which is why the counter shows both limits.
Why does my count differ from another counter?
Counters treat emoji and some accented letters differently. This one counts each Unicode code point, so an emoji built from several parts counts as several characters.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. The counting runs in your browser with a small script. Nothing you paste is sent to Mubuz or saved after you close the page.
Once your titles and captions fit, Mubuz can make the videos to go with them: one idea becomes a series of up to 10 short episodes, each a 15-second vertical video with captions and voice, posted to YouTube Shorts and Facebook Reels.
