Fables and folk tales: a faceless Shorts niche
By the Mubuz team · Published
Everyone knows the tortoise beat the hare. Almost nobody knows what happened at the rematch. Fables and folk tales are short, out of copyright and already built around a lesson, which makes them an easy series. The channels that grow add a twist the viewer did not see coming.
Old story, new turn
Aesop, the Brothers Grimm and the world's folk tales are free to retell. A straight retelling is one video every other channel has already made. A sequel, a role swap or the villain's side is yours.

- Title: Tori's Rematch in the Sunlit Meadow
- 1. Tori the tortoise stands at the starting line in the sunlit meadow where she and the hare once raced, now surrounded by curious young animals and familiar trees.
- 2. Years later the meadow has changed and so have they: Tori worries her shell feels heavier, while the boastful hare insists he's faster than ever and the youngsters demand a rematch to settle the debate.
- 3. But the organizers — the meadow's youngsters — add a surprise obstacle: a rushing stream and a wobbling log that can't be crossed by speed alone, turning the contest into more than a straight sprint.
- 4. Midway the hare skids on the log and falters. Tori chooses to steady the log and guide him across, and together they combine careful pacing with quick thinking to keep going.
- 5. They cross the finish side-by-side to cheers, leaving everyone wondering whether the old lesson still holds — and as they laugh a distant horn sounds from the foothills, promising an even tougher course and a new rematch.

Is it made for kids?
It depends on who you make it for. If children are the main audience (simple words, bright cartoon pictures, nursery tone), YouTube treats it as made for kids: comments, notifications and personalized ads are turned off, and you must set the audience yourself.
Mubuz posts every video as not made for kids. For a children's channel, download the videos and upload them yourself with "made for kids" set. A fable channel told for adults (dry humour, darker twists) can stay not made for kids.
Posting rhythm and titles
- Three to five a week. Each fable is complete in one or two episodes, so a long series is a collection, not one story.
- Titles that promise the twist: "The hare's revenge", "What the wolf told the court".
Questions
Are Grimm's fairy tales copyright-free?
The original tales are. Modern translations, films and illustrated editions can still be protected, so tell the tale in your own words.
